10 Executive Positions
Positions and Duties
President – The president is the public face and leader of the DCBA. The president is responsible for:
- Establishing and implementing the associations vision and mission
- Motivating and guiding the executive team
- Ensuring executive performance
- Overseeing the array of events that take place throughout the year
- Ensuring club executives and members have a fantastic experience
- Approving capital expenditures in conjunction with the Treasurer
- Expected to contribute to all DCBA signature events
- Finding and naming an appropriate successor a minimum of two semesters before departing and setting up the successor for continued growth and success. Successor must also be approved by the DCBA Faculty Liaison
Treasurer – The treasurer is in charge of the association’s finances and the related paper work. The treasurer is responsible for:
- Developing (when necessary), maintaining, and improving the financial record keeping system.
- Creating and maintaining a budget for the fiscal year
- Securing relations with corporate sponsors
- Approving capital expenditures in conjunction with the President
- Managing petty cash and performing monthly reconciliations
- Reimbursing individuals for approved purchases made for the DCBA
- Expected to contribute to all DCBA signature events
- Finding and naming an appropriate successor a minimum of two semesters before departing and setting up the successor for continued growth and success. Successor must be approved by the President before positions can change hands.
Marketing Rep – The Marketing Reps represent the interests of marketing students. Responsibilities include:
- Establishing communication with the professional bodies below regarding upcoming events, volunteering opportunities, and designations. They relay this information back to the student body through updates on the website and/or class announcements
- Marketing Association of BC
- Marketing Research and Intelligence Association BC Chapter
- Sales and Marketing Executives International
- Expected to contribute to all DCBA signature events
- Finding and naming an appropriate successor a minimum of one semester before departing and setting up the successor for continued growth and success. Successor must be approved by the President before positions can change hands.
Human Resources Coordinator – Responsibilities include:
- In charge of developing and implementing the DCBA student run Business Card service and subsequently reevaluating the service on an annual basis to ensure that it is running smoothly and efficiently.
- Ordering DCBA executive business cards from the DC Print Shop
- Maintaining, updating, and ensuring the continued development of the DCBA database through the chosen CRM system.
- Developing and implementing a volunteer and executive recruitment plan at the beginning of every semester. This must include classroom visits.
- Contacting volunteers about upcoming events
- Expected to contribute to all DCBA signature events

Accounting Rep – The Accounting Rep. represent the interests of accounting students. Responsibilities include:
- Establishing communication with the professional bodies below regarding upcoming events, volunteering opportunities, and designations. They relay this information back to the student body through updates on the website and/or class announcements
- Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia
- Certified General Accountants BC
- Certified Management Accountants BC
- Plan and execute three separate information sessions on three separate nights for the following designations, instructions to do so can be found here (http://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0ARP-KX9M5W20ZGYzajU0MzVfMTZmcjZwYmc1dw&hl=en).

- CGA
- CMA
*Speak to the chair of the accounting department before planning these events to get the ok on budget etc.

Events Coordinator – The events coordinator a project manager for the DCBA “signature” events, which include:
- DCBA Speakers Night – Between September 20th and September 30th +/- 2 days. Preferably Monday Night.
- DCBA Adopt a Family through Fraser Side (http://www.fraserside.bc.ca/) – December
- DCBA Birthday Bash – Between January 20th and January 31st +/- 2 days – Friday or Saturday only.
- DCBA Golf Tournament Between May 15th and July 15th – Must be on a Friday

The events coordinator will serve as a Project Manager for these events by:
- Delegating appropriate DCBA event checklist http://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0ARP-KX9M5W20ZGYzajU0MzVfMTRjdDhtem5oaA&hl=en items to team members/volunteers and ensuring all appropriate items on the checklist are taken care of in a timely fashion
- Adding items required to the unique situation not on the event checklist
- Liaising with the HR coordinator to ensure volunteers are available if needed
- Keeping the President informed about the upcoming event(s).
Finance Rep – Finance reps represent the interests of finance students. Responsibilities include:
- Establishing communication with the professional bodies below regarding upcoming events, volunteering opportunities, and designations. They relay this information back to the student body through updates on the website and/or class announcements
- Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts
- Certified Financial Planner
- Certified Financial Manager
- Finding and naming an appropriate successor a minimum of one semester before departing and setting up the successor for continued growth and success. Successor must be approved by the President before positions can change hands.
University Transfer and Business Management Rep – The UT and Business Management Rep represent the interests of UT and Business Management students. Responsibilities include:
- Establishing communication with the local institutions to relay information to students about transferring information sessions, changes in policy, and ways to improve chances of successful application. These schools include
- SFU
- UBC
- UVIC
- Royal Roads
- UFV
- Establishing communication with the various clubs at the above universities (eg. Accounting Club) and coordinate information sessions where those students can meet and receive information from club members from the various institutions. The goal of this is to ease student transition from Douglas College to university life.
- Relating case competition information from the above institutions to students

DCBA Tax Service Coordinator - The tax representative is a third or fourth year accounting student who has taken both TX1 and TX2 courses as well as the CRA training. The tax coordinator manages the tax service offered by the DCBA. Responsibilities include:
- In charge of developing and implementing the DCBA student run tax service and subsequently reevaluating the service on an annual basis to ensure that it is running smoothly and efficiently.
- Responsible for the running of the tax service, ensuring that tax returns are done correctly and that students involved in the tax service are held accountable for doing and maintaining quality work.
- Expected to contribute to all DCBA signature events

Webmaster – The DCBA Webmaster is responsible for the following:
- Website updates including updating:
- Content
- Word Press software
- Word Press Plug-in’s
- Pictures
- Upcoming events calendar
- Announcements
- Executive profiles/heroes
- Search engine optimization
- Website host renewal
- Email maintenance
- Approving job postings for website
- Approving comments on website
- Expected to contribute to all DCBA signature events
