CMA Career Night 2012
Posted by: | CommentsSave the date! On March 29th, 2012 CMA will be hosting its annual CMA Career Night networking gala. Over a three-course dinner students will connect with CMAs and CMA Candidates and learn about their careers and experiences with the CMA program.

DCBA BIRTHDAY BASH

This is a social event organized by the DCBA to promote networking amongst students and also our primary fundraiser for the year.
Date: Friday, February 10th
Time: 6:00pm
Location: The Shark Club Bar and Grill – 180W. Georgia Street, Vancouver BC
Cost: $10 per person – includes admission and one complimentary beverage
There will be door prizes and games, as well as the presentation of the Douglas College Business Association Award of Distinction

BCIT/Langara/Douglas CRAM Session
Posted by: | CommentsThe cram session for BCIT/Langara/Douglas students is March 19th, 4:30-6:00 pm. It will be held at the BCIT Burnaby campus –The room number is SW3 1750
The session will provide you with networking tips, interview tips, CACEE writing, etc.
The event is for students going through fall recruit this September.
BCACC CA Speaker Series
Posted by: | CommentsICABC has a great speaker secured for our first BCACC CA Speaker Series which will be held on Feb. 17th from 2:30-4:00 pm at BCIT SW1 1205.
Erfan Kazemi, 35, became CFO of Sandstorm Gold Ltd, a $500 million company, by the age of 32. Erfan is a very impressive young individual and I think he’ll have some very valuable information to share.
Erfan will present for about 30-45 minutes and there will be plenty of time for Q&A afterwards.

Biography:
Mr. Kazemi is a former Senior Manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers. In that role, he worked primarily in the mining and forestry sectors where he assisted clients in areas such as public financings, mergers and acquisitions, US/SEC securities filings, and various other areas. He has managed the audits of billion dollar multinational entities and also co-authored several publications including the annual BC Mining Industry Survey. Mr. Kazemi articled with PricewaterhouseCoopers where he obtained the Chartered Accountant designation and is a graduate of the University of British Columbia where he received a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics).
In the Community, Mr. Kazemi serves as Vice-Chair of the Vancouver Public Library Board, is an officer of the Vancouver Branch of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum and is a former member of the University Of British Columbia Board of Governors. He has received numerous awards including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia’s Community Service Award and the University of British Columbia Alumni Association’s Outstanding Future Alumnus Award.
Mr. Kazemi is currently CFO of Sandstorm Gold Ltd, a $500 million dollar growth-focused, resource-based company that seeks to complete gold purchase agreements with companies that have advanced stage development projects or operating mines.
DCBA Tax Service
Posted by: | CommentsStudents do you want to upgrade your resume, come join us and help others complete there Tax forms for the year by registering to join the DCBA Student Tax Service. Participants will be donating volunteer hours to the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) by completing Personal Tax Returns for students and other low lncome members of the community. The Training Session will be taking place on Monday, March 5th from 9:00am to 4:00pm in room 4310 at the New West Campus. Tax sessions are soon to be decided. Come get some valuable work experience that will be great on a resume!

CA Information Session
Posted by: | CommentsIf you are interested in becoming an accountant or simply curious about a career in accounting, join the Douglas College Business Association (DCBA) on Wednesday, January 25th as we hold a Chartered Accountant Information Session.
Speakers from Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC (ICABC) and Smythe Ratcliffe will be on campus to talk about the designation and how to obtain the designation. This is a fantastic opportunity to both learn about becoming designated or to help decide what path you want to take.

Upcoming Events with the DCBA

On January 18th we will be bringing in a key note speaker to Douglas which is TBD
On January 25th the DCBA will be bring in the CA accounting designation for an information sessision
On February 29th the DCBA is proud to have the CFA financial designation back to the college for an information session
We will have sign up sheets for these shortly.
Everyone also make sure that they have February 10th booked off for the DCBA Annual Birthday Bash at Shark Club on West Georgia.
Firms and Industry Night
Posted by: | CommentsCapilano University is holding its annual Firms and Industry Night on Thursday November 24. The event will host companies from all three designations. This is an excellent opportunity to make connections earlier in the year and learn more about what opportunities are out there. All universities and colleges are invited on a first come first serve basis, there will be a cap per school depending on the numbers registered.

CMA Post Secondary Wine and cheese Night

CMAs will be on hand from a variety of companies such as Lululemon, BC Hydro, Davis LLP, TELUS, Scotiabank, Best Buy, and Ledcor.
